I heard this song played today for the first time in a coon's age. Always a special one on my reminiscing playlist, it's what happened to be playing on the radio when I smoked my first ever joint.
Memories. I was in the back seat, my friend Martha and her then boyfriend of the day were up front. He liked the ganja and I was only a teenager, and we sometimes tend to try out new stuff around that time, you know. So anyway, we were on our way to my other friend Cheryl's high school's production of Fiddler on the Roof.
I remember nothing about the show, other than that I found it extraordinarily funny until I couldn't hold back and we were eventually tossed out because of my laughing out loud. Good times.
The plus side is we then could swing by the 7-11 and stock up on some much-needed munchies. I've always been a mess, still am carrying on though. The boyfriend's name was also Doug, and he drove an AMC Hornet. Don't even know why I remember that.
Tomorrow my birthday, probably the reason for such flashbacks. A new day maybe, but I'll no doubt still be the same wayward mess as I am today, only just older. And truth be told, that's fine by me.

ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY FIRST OF ALL! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI liked, "boyfriend of the day." ha. Sounds like my sis. :) She once broke up with a guy cause he cut his HUGE afro, and another for wearing white socks with black pants. :)
I remember this song! Not into rock but for some reason have always liked this one and would not change the station...even sang the chorus. Come to think of it, the words...yeah, hit home. No wonder I liked it. It spoke to me. Thanks for the flashback!

ReplyDeleteHappy B-day! Party on wayward son!
ReplyDeleteI can't hear Kansas without thinking of how crazy the lead singer was in concert. It was very memorable. He did handstands on the piano and sang "Dust" like it was a hardcore thrash metal song!
I still love this song.
Happy B-day! This is a good one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the birthday wishes, y'all! And to Lumina, can't say that I blame sis for moving on from the white socks with black pants, the afro I guess it might depend on just how big. Okay, speaking of flashbacks, I remember myself wearing white socks with black pants even, he was probably an awesome guy really. Erika, I've seen Kansas in concert back in the day more than once, they do put on a good show! Dust is also a favorite, their music, that and this one do somehow carry a message. The one here though as good as it might be always gets lost in thinking about my pothead days instead. :-) Thanks again everybody.
