Imperfect, for a fact, but it's finally over; the health care reform bill passed and ready for Obama to sign off on. I'm not wetting my pants about it or anything, but I am glad, for what it's worth. For all my bitching about the details of the plan and for the peremptory stunts pulled getting it through, it is at least something useful, bringing the United States' health care setup closer to better. In it he talks about the dangers of global climate change , and how the preponderance of responsibility for the mess lies squarely at the feet of the United States and the Western industrialized nations. Like most other gay folks, I was gratified the other night to hear President Obama announce at the State of the Union address his intention to put repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell on the agenda for 2010. Of course we were all hyped when we heard it the first time, too. Back when he was pandering the rainbow coalition for votes during his campaign, pledging to be a "fierce advocate" for LGBT rights. To start working toward getting rid of DADT during his first year as president was part of that promise. Not that he has totally snubbed us, I guess, but tagging him a "fierce advocate" is probably a stretch . Chris Matthews after covering President Obama's State of the Union address said : “I forgot he was black tonight for an hour." And there was that other time he said about then Senator Obama: "The fact that he's good at basketball doesn't surprise anybody." Since Scott Brown beat out Martha Coakley for the Massachusetts Senate seat (mostly because she ran a sucky campaign; the loss of it squarely on her shoulders, in my opinion and others' ), the Democrats are all discombobulated now. This most reverend Roman Catholic asshole priest guy in California, Joseph Illo, has highly recommended to his culpable parishioners that they most likely should pay a visit to the confessional for their souls' sakes if they happened to have voted for Barack Obama. Apparently, threats against the life of new president-elects generally spike after any election. But this year it seems that officials are seeing more threats against Barack Obama than ever before. The Secret Service wouldn't comment nor provide the number of occurrences they might be investigating. They did say, though, that since the election, law enforcement officials have seen more potentially threatening writings, Internet postings and other activity directed toward Obama than has been seen with anyone. So admitted anonymous officials aware of the goings on. Only on condition of anonymity, of course, because of security concerns. So I was watching on PBS this evening about the war crap, I don't recall which show, not that anyone watches public broadcasting with fattest losers and dancing fools on at the same time anyway. Whatever, I watched ... and it pissed me off all over again, just when we've all forgotten about anything other than our me me me 401(k)s and bank accounts and shit. Remember the wars? Remember how Bush has so fucked the world over these past several years? Or if nothing else, with our short-term memory disorder, at least why you've become suddenly poor? Barack Obama was here in town speaking the other day, to a crowd of 75,000. Just a couple of days later, John McCain also was here in town speaking, to a crowd of 6,000. I just thought that was funny.

Well, hey, being objective even (which yeah, I am capable of) who can deny that Obama won out big time tonight over McCain? Anyone whose scorecard tallied differently might want to consider figuring out that getting head out of ass thing. I also actually found the debate, for a change, entertaining as well. Another political boner for me, yep. Obama does that to me sometimes, most usually anyway. Not always, but tonight it was good for me, even in McCain's own favored Town Hall venue. Which, by the way, is really rather an arguable description of how it truly went down, so a pass given to McCain's performance for it not being quite what he had most likely hoped for or expected. The greater part of the ninety minutes basically just the typical moderator to candidate format, wherever from the questions. Well, at least the geezer showed up to debate, even without some miracle cure discovered for our financial woes. I'm glad, of course, that he did. Not making an appearance would only have proved his political idiocy, and Lord knows his ticket needs no more of that. Two words: Sarah Palin . So at least he was there anyway. Actually, I thought McCain and Obama both did well tonight, other than that John seemed to not notice that Barack was actually in the same room. McCain responded to every direct comment from Obama via the moderator; I think he must have thought Jim Lehrer was channeling his opponent instead. He never once looked to the left. Maybe that goiter on his face impairs his leftside vision or something, but still, he should have known better. That aside, I was glad the show went on after all and like I said, I do think they both did quite well. Put on hold the friggin' debate? When I heard McCain live this afternoon make his speech about why with this Wall Street flop that would somehow rationalize delaying Friday night's face-off between him and Obama, I was dumbstruck. My first thought was that particularly in light of the goings on now, what better time to hear from the two potential next leaders to take over from the disaster of the incumbent loon who has overseen this toppling in the first place? For some reason my circadian rhythm has totally been all out whack lately. Whyever, I've seen dawn break before hitting the sack more often than not the past several days.
