Seems the verdict is that the pair of them, who concocted the " Torture Memo " on behalf of the administration toward the beginning of Bush's wartime reign, really did not misconduct themselves professionally after all, as had been the first findings by the Office of Professional Responsibility; that might have meant disbarment. Instead, the two lawyering hacks only exercised "poor judgment" in writing up and signing off on the official memoranda granting limitless authority to President Bush, overriding whatever bothersome domestic and international laws that might otherwise occlude a presidential wartime notion. The Disabled American Veterans are holding their annual national convention next month at Bally's Hotel in Las Vegas. Crippled they are, many of course missing body parts lost since World War II up until the current Iraq and Afghanistan debacles. So they invite speakers, both keynote and some of lesser note. Hardly qualifies as a respectable convention without speakers really. Veep Dick Cheney made the key list, and RSVP'd to be there! I'm sorry, but I just couldn't even go there. I tried, but after three or four attempts at a fairly respectable Memorial Day post yesterday, blah blah blah ... each effort invariably took a most nasty turn so I gave it up. Most likely put off course by the extreme rabid indignation I felt after listening to that pathetic excuse for a president human being deliver his rote speech at Arlington National Cemetery, "paying tribute to the troops." THE PRESIDENT: " It is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom that the number of headstones in a place such as this grows with every new Memorial Day. America's undeniable success in Iraq, according to our most highly esteemed commander, has been well worth the "sacrifice" of this country's to-date 4,000 cammie-clad corpses . My very close personal friend from Midland, Joe. J. O'Neill, III, recently loaned me a portrait entitled "A Charge to Keep" by W.H.D. Koerner. This beautiful painting will hang on my wall for the next four years. The reason I bring this up is that the painting is based upon the Charles Wesley hymn "A Charge to Keep I Have". I am particularly impressed by the second verse of this hymn.
