Incredible Chile Dog

This surveillance video from some highway in Santiago, Chile, shows what is apparently a not uncommon plight on that city's roadways.

As a consequence of an over population of homeless dogs in that city, it's pretty much the norm seeing dogs as roadkill and often being run over. That is disturbing to me (I'm a dog person big time!)

So it is upsetting watching this video of one very unlucky guy getting hit not just once at highway speed, but then tossed about and clearly surviving only to be run over again trying to get safe, finally winding up motionless in the middle of the freeway.

That's very sad, but what makes this exceptional and a video well worth watching just the same is seeing then a canine buddy putting his own life at risk right thereafter, only in a final attempt at rescuing his pal, dodging traffic himself and then dragging his amigo across the way off to the side of the road.

For the hit pup it was unfortunately too late, he didn't make it. Still I consider that other one a canine hero anyway, and a real friend.

I assume they were chums, anyway. Otherwise it could be argued that the second on scene might be just one incredibly stupid mutt. Either way (and I prefer to believe the first of the possibilities here) I do find this truly an affecting story and a very moving thing to see.

  1. I saw this last week. Beautiful and sad at the same time. How tragic the poor dog died. Sometimes animals behave more humane than humans.

  2. I didn't want to watch, but the still shot is touching. My sister found her Lab like this. He was in the median of busy I-4 in Orlando next to a dead little dog. She said he was looking so sad and didn't want to leave his friend. I can't believe people abandon their animals in such a cruel fashion. (I've seen video where people just leave their dogs on the highway.)

  3. I couldn't watch it because I think your vid shows the dog actually get hit? Twice?! I saw on the news, just the "saving" part AND they said they both were okay???! Not the case???!

It was amazing to watch the buddy, save his buddy. Beautiful, yet heartbreaking at the same time. :(

Don't Ask, Don't Tell - Just Do It

Like most other gay folks, I was gratified the other night to hear President Obama announce at the State of the Union address his intention to put repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell on the agenda for 2010. Of course we were all hyped when we heard it the first time, too. Back when he was pandering the rainbow coalition for votes during his campaign, pledging to be a "fierce advocate" for LGBT rights. To start working toward getting rid of DADT during his first year as president was part of that promise. Not that he has totally snubbed us, I guess, but tagging him a "fierce advocate" is probably a stretch . It's really little wonder that much of the queer community reacted approvingly, but also with a fair amount of skepticism, the other night after hearing him vow again to do what he vowed once before with nothing gotten done so far. This DADT thing, I wouldn't think, should be such a big ordeal to get over and done with in short order. Even military p...

Hung on the Cross

So what, I'm not very mature for my age. I don't care, I'm easily amused because of it, and I enjoy being amused. Like this picture of a crucifix which was hoisted a couple of months ago above the main altar at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic church in Oklahoma: I can come up with lots of hilariously inappropriate captions here, some that even I am embarrassed to admit thinking up, despite my unabashed crudity. I would share but probably everyone else is too sophisticated to see the humor. Plus, I really don't want to go to Hell. I'm guessing that there are an awful lot of Okie parishioners down there at the church where this is hung for real, who I reckon wouldn't appreciate my sense of humor about it, either. They are, in general, hugely offended by it instead, because they see nothing funny whatsoever about displaying Jesus' ginormous penis in church, not in the least bit! Seems as though this has caused quite a "deep divide" among members o...
