Driving Test

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear. And I can't help but ask myself how much I let the fear take the wheel and steer.

It's driven me before and it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal. But lately I'm beginning to find that I should be the one behind the wheel. Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there with open arms and open eyes. I'll be there.

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive, will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive? It's driven me before and it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around. But lately I'm beginning to find that when I drive myself my light is found.

Would you choose the water over wine, hold the wheel and drive?

  1. Doug,

I have severe control issues so I never let fear take the wheel. That said, sometimes I stay on park until the fear passes. Then I drive.

  2. Yeah, but it's easy to let fear take the wheel, the unknown is sometimes scary. Seems safer sometimes to just go along with the "hive." I'm like you, though, with the control issue. Good advice, too, to stay in Park until you're ready to drive. Well-said, my friend, indeed. (and thanks ... you know what I'm sayin'.)

  5. I just stopped by to say hello. I wanted to see how you're adjusting to your new home. I look forward to visiting you more. It looks as though little navigator has also rolled out the welcome mat. How sweet of you little navigator. We must watch over him and make sure he doesn't work too hard.

On the driving thing, I like to take it slow and build up speed , before taking off. New and change is always scary , but its part of life.

  6. Thanks, Rain! Not to worry about me working too hard. Hi, my name is Doug, and I'm a slacker, but do love the ladies watching over me nonetheless.

"I like to take it slow and build up speed, before taking off." Don't we all, sister friend, don't we all! Foghat's "Slow Ride" comes to mind. Okay, I'm warped. Sorry.

  8. Yeah, but it's the song itself that came to mind ... the slow groove near the end, the build-up to the final frantic riffs and then that pass-the-smokes moment at the very end. Whew. I'm just sayin', that 8-track was well-worth the 6 bucks I doled out as a teenager.

I Think

I think I'm bored blogging. I think I'm done with it. I think what's the point? I think you should check out my blogroll instead. I think they say stuff better anyway.

Betty White "needs to start taking her relationship with God serious." Seriously?

I was one of those grassroots Facebook campaigners responsible for Betty White hosting Saturday Night Live the other night, so for that, let me just say: "You're very welcome!" I thought she was fantastic, better even than I had expected she might be, and by most accounts her coming on the show was a huge success. Except for some, who apparently had more eternal concerns weighing on their minds, precluding enjoying it so much. Like Jose, who while conceding that Betty White is legend "in this day and age of rebels and rockers" (I really don't know what that means, but it seems to be a good thing), is more concerned about her afterlife appearance instead, presumably being so old as she is. A legend, sure ... "However, I think Betty really needs to start taking her relationship with God serious. Betty can't please this new generation, she has nothing to prove to them. Her relationship with the Lord is what she needs to take serious." Well, all...

Why's There Even You and Me? A Personal Diversion

Obama still ba-rocks and McCain still, um ... is a dick. Okay. That's the extent of my political rumination today. Although I may be totally off on both counts, I wouldn't know. I honestly paid zero attention to realpolitik today so I have no clue what might have happened really. I have other more personal and most disconcerting things on my mind. I'm kind of creeped out. I have a stalker ... don't laugh. I really do. I think his name is Mike but I'm not even sure about that. He was probably lying when I asked, whatever the hell it was he said, but that's what I think I remember. I was drunk at the time. Admittedly my fault. I'm an idiot sometimes, no new tale to tell there. I don't recall exactly how I met the guy in the first place - it was a couple of years ago - but I do know that I willingly gave up my address. With directions, no less. Just in case. Damn the hooch. What was I thinking? Anyway, so here's the deal. I had him over a time or two ea...
