Barack In Da Hood, Michelle Rocks The Rockies

Hey, Barack Obama is right now just down the road from me, within walking distance even! Silly that for whatever reason this makes me feel all sunny side up, I know, but it does. Yeah, that family he had dinner with tonight and the home from where he watched Michelle's most excellent speech, then beaming in live to Denver afterwards is only a few blocks from my house. I mean, I knew he was here in Kansas City today, just didn't realize he was actually hanging out in my very own neighborhood. Why does this sort of thing make me all gaga anyway? He's down the street ... so what? I'm such a loser, or maybe I should really just get a life. I might should probably check into doing that sometime. Obviously, it's not like he's going to swing by my house to chill for awhile on his way back to the hotel or anything. Although that would be coolness. I'll switch on the porch light just in case, but I digress. So tonight was the first of the Democratic National Conven...

Obama's Backup

All right, I know I said I was sick of all the media veepstakes speculation and ramblings. But I did hear this evening that apparently Obama is on the verge of announcing his pick! Very excited about that for some reason. If nothing else, it should cut at least in half all the veep chatter, but mostly I just really need to know. From what I heard anyway, he arrived at his choice last week while getting leied in Hawaii. Apparently the chosen one is still oblivious, however, so I suppose I'll most likely have to wait to find out until after Barack's people have called whoever the other's people, but I do hope they make that connection sooner rather than later. I don't know why this pleases me so. I think mostly because I've been holding off on a bumper sticker until I can get one with both mates' names. I felt like such a loser driving around town with my John Kerry solo sticker back when, what with everyone else sporting the later Kerry-Edwards printing. I coul...

Props to Hillary

Most excellent speech this morning, and many well-deserved kudos to Ms. Hillary. Well done and well said, beginning to end. I thought she was fantastic. "So today I am standing with Senator Obama to say, ' Yes, we can! '" Better late than never, I suppose, and thank God that's over. Time now to put the infighting behind and come together for the betterment of the country and of us all. Of course, there are those few ex-Clinton-supporters-turned-sniveling-jackass-retards avowedly pledged to vote McCain now that the Hillary camp has conclusively and officially succumbed. Such party expatriates should simply fucking stay the hell home come November, boneheads all in my opinion. Lesson learned - we Democrats are not insusceptible to the lunatic fringe, contrary to my thinking all this time that the Republicans held a monopoly on bonkers. Naïveté on my part. Whatever. For the rest of us, though, onward and upward!

A Hillary Harangue

So I took a week off, that was weird. Self-imposed exile from all things Internet. Rather like rehab it was to give it up, and me not quite sure that I was up for the challenge. The first day or two I admittedly did sneak an email peek here and there, cold turkey didn't really work out so well but I eventually bucked up. I'm no addict, I can quit anytime. I'm awesome. Maybe some day I'll attempt forgoing smokes and booze for a week to further bear out my awesomeness. Some day. For now though allow me to fire up a fag (I wish), crack open a cold one and bluster about why Hillary pissed me off last night. I truly thought her speech began well enough, totally expecting a leading up to gracious concession to Barack's pledged delegates victory. " I want to start tonight by congratulating Senator Obama and his supporters on the extraordinary race that they have run. "Senator Obama has inspired so many Americans to care about politics and empowered so many more ...

Hillary's Handiwork

Okay, it's most likely a given that Hillary can't win the nomination. We all know that. And I really don't think for one second that she's so dense as to really believe otherwise, either ... so it's a real headscratcher why she insists on suffering through to the inevitable end come August. Self-inflicted humiliation, that is. While the Clinton Conclave continues to manipulate the numbers (talk about your fuzzy math!) I'd rather have hoped, after all of her constant harping about tossing her divisive hat into the Obama ring if things should go awry, that she'd have by now already committed to the greater party good. Alas, not so much. I've figured it out, though. Like any actor, well-rehearsed and having suffered sleepless nights to nail a role, it's understandable why she would wish the show to go on ... despite critical review. As this video from earlier on seems to indicate, she has presumably been hard at work honing her campaign-performance ski...

Phillary

" Could you imagine if Rocky Balboa had gotten halfway up those Art Museum stairs and said, 'Well, I guess that’s about far enough?' Let me tell you something, when it comes to finishing the fight, Rocky and I have a lot in common. I never quit. I never give up ." What more fitting venue than Philadelphia, PA for Hillary to spout such rhetorical trope ? Still set on hanging tough, I see, notwithstanding the inevitable outcome. If memory serves, Rocky lost. The black dude won. Balboan doggedness or Quixotian fantasy ... either way, you have to give the lady props for keeping the blinders on. God bless her. Maybe she didn't see the movie , I don't know. Doesn't she have people, though, to check out such things? I'd reckon that there are some less-than-favorable performance evaluations forthcoming.

Hillary Exonerated

I'm not the biggest Hillary fan, and in fact she has progressively drifted further from my good graces as this seemingly eternal campaign season draws out. Nonetheless, I'll confess to being more than just a bit baffled by all of the flap she's met with since recollecting last week her and Chels's 1996 trip to war-ravaged Bosnia , with all that de-planing sniper fire and such. I mean, come on ... I may not be a supporter but who, right in the head, would for a moment believe that someone like Hillary would stoop to conjuring up such a " whopper " for political gain? Her irrefutable integrity aside, how could anyone possibly think that she would be so foolish as to ever consider making up such stories that could be so readily disproved? Of course, they tried to sully her reputation, running video footage of a "seemingly" most normal, sniper-free de-planing with what one might even consider to be a ceremonious welcoming. A perfect example of right-wi...

Dem Debates, Love American Style

I watched the Cleveland-hosted Clinton v. Obama bout tonight, promoted by MSNBC as the final Democratic debate of 2008. No surprise that I watched, really, considering that I am also an admitted addict to all things Seinfeld . I'll sit and watch those same syndicated classic episodes over and over and over again, scripts having by now permeated my psyche to the point that I swear I could recite verbatim every episode of every season whether or not my life depended on it. I could not only understudy for Kramer or Elaine, I'm beginning to think that I'm nearly prepared to also sub for Barack or Hillary if duty calls. Bring on the moderators! Despite the hype about how this would be a gloves-off slugfest, given Hillary's media-attention-grabbing bi-polar mood swings this past week ( Thursday , Friday , Saturday ), tonight's debate seemed to me to be pretty much rote. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Obamaniac or whatever we're to call ourselves these days, but I ...
