Overthinking Gay-friendly

The other day on Facebook, a friend of mine brought up an interesting issue that I hadn't really considered before. He got a mite peeved in one post, about gay-friendly businesses advertising themselves as such, which, so far as I had always imagined, was a nifty thing to do. I'm pretty sure that I would probably opt for one place over another, online or in real life, that would proudly assert welcoming my kind's patronage. Not necessarily that the other company wouldn't likely be just as glad pocketing some coin, gay or no, it's just that the extra measure saying so seems like an indeed cordial thing to do. John brought up the point, though, by asking how appropriate would it be showing off about being Muslim-friendly, for example, or black-friendly, Jew-friendly, Latino-friendly, et al.? Any discriminated-against group of folks should be delighted at being singled out and courted by such accepting establishments, no? Put that way, I see his point; it doesn't ...

Robert Gates on DADT, Par for the Course

"Cautiously optimistic, again to wait and see" is how I wrapped up my post the other day , referring to whether or not President Obama would step up making good his promise to push repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Later than we had expected from him, maybe, but better overdue than never. So let the games begin. Kicking it off today, the hearing out of the military's top defense officials about their take on getting rid of it, and what the Pentagon would need to do if and when that happened. I reckon that's a start, but I have a gripe about how things got going and how I expect things will turn out going forward. Robert Gates said that just laying the groundwork for a repeal of the policy will take most of a year. That's how long is apparently will take to prepare the military, and to get their thoughts and opinions about it before doing anything else. He said he will put together a "high-level working group" to immediately get started on t...

Peter LaBarbera - Ultimate Victim of Douchebaggery

I've said it before, how that I am baffled about not getting whatever memo I was supposed to, telling me just exactly what is the homosexual agenda. Frankly I wouldn't even know we have one, except for the radical religious right-wing sermonizers always talking about it. Seems they must have intercepted my and others' directions for what to do, because I can't find one individual gay person who knows, either. Apparently part of it is to make straight people switch bedding with the reverse sex for doing it same-same instead, because that matters to us somehow. Then if all else fails, we are called for to kill them. Plainly that seems wrong; I don't blame the wingnuts for trying to stop us there, we leaving behind so many categorical casualties in our homosexual order of business. At least that's what you'd think we're up to, reading what douchebag Peter LaBarbera has to say about it. He the founder of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality , who e...

Gay Hooky Day

Sorry to disappoint my fellow homos, some of which will no doubt be on board with this whole deal and probably even participating, and fabulous best wishes for them all. You go, boys and girls! But this "calling in gay day" for tomorrow is just flat out embarrassing to me personally. Exactly how is this making any point supporting the gay marriage thing, the impetus for this entire nationwide game plan? Ah, that's right, it doesn't really at all. It accomplishes nothing toward that end, of course, despite that being the original issue providing the instigators their Eureka! moment of deciding to rally together all workerbee Ls, Gs, Bs and Ts to validate just how reliant their companies are on them showing up in order to stay afloat... the " Day Without a Gay " scheduled for mañana I suppose is meant to make at least that much clear. But a stupid approach and bad idea overall just the same. Mostly meaningless, though, are the extraneous bits of the planned ...

Just Shut Up Already

Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, John Legend, will.i.am, Beyonce, Pussycat Dolls, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, T.I., Rascal Flatts, Lady GaGa, Alicia Keys. Finally my aunt and my grandmother, shut up. Yeah, they all annoy me for one reason or another, sometimes for no reason I can put my finger on really, and there are so many more names but this handful of persons comes to mind straightaway. Maybe I'm just cranky, it is after all only about twenty degrees here with a wind chill around tenish or so right now and still early overnight, and having no heat, I'm feeling somewhat less than warm-hearted (or for that matter any other warm parts) right now. I guess this sampling of irritant persons is called up right off the bat because each has at some point over the past couple of days been in my face somewhere somehow grating on what I think to be my last good nerve. Then the next one comes along and finds yet another leftover raw nerve. (Why no politicians nor right-wing pundits made the lis...

Take Your Mama Out - If You Can Afford To

This video is just because, and I also do have a crush on gay boy Jake Shears anyway. I like this song written basically about him coming out to his mom. Plus I've been watching endlessly this whole economic fiasco unfold all day long and am frankly tired of it already. I think I'm a masochist maybe, but one can only take so much. News is turned off now, shifting gears. Music makes me happy. Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama
