Dem Debates, Love American Style

I watched the Cleveland-hosted Clinton v. Obama bout tonight, promoted by MSNBC as the final Democratic debate of 2008.

No surprise that I watched, really, considering that I am also an admitted addict to all things Seinfeld. I'll sit and watch those same syndicated classic episodes over and over and over again, scripts having by now permeated my psyche to the point that I swear I could recite verbatim every episode of every season whether or not my life depended on it.

I could not only understudy for Kramer or Elaine, I'm beginning to think that I'm nearly prepared to also sub for Barack or Hillary if duty calls. Bring on the moderators!

Despite the hype about how this would be a gloves-off slugfest, given Hillary's media-attention-grabbing bi-polar mood swings this past week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), tonight's debate seemed to me to be pretty much rote.

Don't get me wrong, I'm an Obamaniac or whatever we're to call ourselves these days, but I certainly do not dislike Hillary. If not for genital and pigmental dissimilarities they would for the most part be indiscernible, and I'd be proud to call either of them my president. I haven't felt like I've had one to call my own in a coon's age!

The fact is, though, that my mind did wander this evening. Can't deny it. I have the script memorized already, yet I still have a compulsion to watch, like Seinfeld. Only different somehow. Seinfeld makes me laugh, the debates make me drowsy. I found myself distracted, thinking mostly about the inordinate amount of media hype given to Hillary's weekend rants (because, well, that really was funny!), but also how that, when face to face, all the animosity and discord betwixt the two always seems to disappear. Rather like rough political make-up sex.

So she had a Midol-deficient, crazy bitch few days. Big deal. I still wouldn't mind seeing a coupling of the two at the end of the day, preferably with Obama on top. But I'm versatile.

  1. I'm ready to see Hillary bow out now. She is hurting herself, I believe, with her increasingly desperate attacks. If she is really concerned about our country she will do this and work to make sure the Dems are unified. Of course, Huckabee and the GOP can't get it together. But I never felt their concern about our country is as strong as their pure lust for power.

  2. I'm sure I'm not privy to all of her "attacks" but the ones I do know of are not desperate, IMO.

Like Doug R, I'm fine with Clinton or Obama.

  3. Doug R,
My hubby and son LOVE Seinfeld. I actually went into labor, because I laughed so hard at an episode of Seinfeld.
As far as Hilary goes I'm with Doug B. I too feel as though she's hurting herself. Sad to say but I have come to dislike her. A few times she walked on the edge of the line and then IMO she finally crossed it. I dislike those type of tactics used by folks on the right and I would be a hypocrite if I didn't reject Hilary for doing the same. If I vote for her it would be a vote against McCain, just as my vote for Kerry was a vote against Bush.

  4. Rain and Doug - Yeah, I know neither of you are big Hill fans. I'm really not either, I wish I could be, but I think that there's a lot of baggage (or is that experience?) she would bring that I'd kinda maybe sorta be worried about. That's why I'm an Obama guy. On the other hand, I think there's enough good there that I'd be at least *more* comfortable with her than anyone with an (R) behind their name. And I think she'd do well bottoming for Obama. (Thanks, little navigator!) :-)

  5. Oh yeah, and as far as DB's comment about time for Hillary to bow out now, that really might not be such a bad idea. Truly. Timing is everything, and if it does get to the point that if she hangs in the race she'd become another delusional Huckabee, that would be sad. And maybe if she bowed out now, she would be at least be worth considering for a potential running mate. I don't know if she'd even consider it, being #2 for the second time, but I kind of like the idea.

Rain - forgot to say, my daughter's birth, too, brings back memories of a sitcom! Not that my wife went into labor from laughing so hard, but because they did an emergency c-section almost 2 months premature to save my wife's life ... at the exact moment that Golden Girls was coming on the hospital TV! I remember the nurse saying during prep something like, "Damn it, this always happens, now I have to miss my favorite show." I always think of Megan now, when I flip through a GG rerun. :-)

  6. Doug- Get out of my freakin' head! Maybe you only played this for your article- but I LOVE Buckcherry! Who else can emote so sincerely the line " I like the way you fuck me"?
I also think he's hot in the wiry, skinny rocker way - I used to love Axl Rose back in the day way before the botox and the fighting with Tommy Hilfigger(ha).

  7. erika - i'll admit the song was a stretch, beyond the crazy bitch part, but i did have you in mind at the time. i thought you might at least appreciate the connection however far-fetched. i love the buckcherry, like i love the cocaine ... you know what i'm talkin' 'bout. and i, too, admit to finding the lead singer sexy. josh something, i think.

  8. I just noticed you're a Scorpio, like me- no wonder you're so cool!

I played "Lit Up" in the car with my little nephew last summer and when we got back he started chanting "I love the cocaine" to his parents (oops ha). He sounded extra cute because he has a Welsh accent.

  9. I agree Erika, Doug R. is the coolest!

  12. Golly, I'm all flustered and tongue-tied now, but thank you for the kind remarks. Does make me begin to question your good taste, though. Thanks, all.

Georgia outlaws microchip implants: "Just imagine having a beeper in your rectum and your beeper numbers displayed on billboards throughout the city."

Well, that bill passed, the one from Georgia "so as to prohibit requiring a person to be implanted with a microchip," Senate Bill 235 . At least it made its way through the House Judiciary Committee, anyway, next stop the House Rules Committee that decides whether it moves on to the full House vote and (fingers crossed) final passage. I'd think it probably should, taking into account the compelling testimony brought up at this last hearing, from some fat lady about why non-consensual chipping should be made against the law. There she described in detail her own personal experience, with being implanted against her druthers: "I'm also one of the people in Georgia who has a microchip," she began. ("Also one?" There's more of them there?) She went on about the specific disadvantages, how it violates one's "right to work without being tortured by co-workers who are activating these microchips by using their cell phones and other electro

Hung on the Cross

So what, I'm not very mature for my age. I don't care, I'm easily amused because of it, and I enjoy being amused. Like this picture of a crucifix which was hoisted a couple of months ago above the main altar at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic church in Oklahoma: I can come up with lots of hilariously inappropriate captions here, some that even I am embarrassed to admit thinking up, despite my unabashed crudity. I would share but probably everyone else is too sophisticated to see the humor. Plus, I really don't want to go to Hell. I'm guessing that there are an awful lot of Okie parishioners down there at the church where this is hung for real, who I reckon wouldn't appreciate my sense of humor about it, either. They are, in general, hugely offended by it instead, because they see nothing funny whatsoever about displaying Jesus' ginormous penis in church, not in the least bit! Seems as though this has caused quite a "deep divide" among members o
